Kendall AMD Foam Dressings

PHMB Antimicrobial Foam Dressing

Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressings provide a moist wound-healing environment for a wide variety of wounds. Kendall™ AMD antimicrobial foam dressings contain 0.5% Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB), a bacteria-killing polymer. Highly effective and safe, PHMB attacks bacteria on and within the dressing, limiting cross-contamination and helping to provide a bacteria-free wound healing environment.

  • Applying Kendall AMD Foam

    1. Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures
    2. Dry the surrounding skin thoroughly
    3. Select the dressing which will provide a minimum of a 2 inch (5 cm) foam margin around the edges of the wound. If necessary cut the dressing to size to ensure a smooth, continuous fit with the skin surface
    4. Kendall™ AMD antimicrobial foam dressings should be applied with the white side touching the dressing site or with the topsheet facing up
    5. Place Kendall™ AMD antimicrobial foam dressing onto the wound surface and hold in place by covering with adhesive tape or an appropriate secondary dressing
    6. The dressing should be changed when signs of saturation become visible along the edge of the dressing or whenever good nursing practise dictates

    Frequency of change

  • For clean, superficial wounds, without any signs of saturation or infection, Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressings may be left in place for up to 7 days.
  • In actual use, the frequency of changes will depend upon the nature and condition of the wound and the amount of exudate.
  • Dressing change and removal:

  • The Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressing should be changed when signs of saturation of the dressing are within 1 cm of the edge of the dressing or whenever clinical practice and facility protocol dictates.
  • To change the dressing, remove the fixation bandages or tape and carefully lift the dressing off the wound. Kendall™ AMD Antimicrobial Foam Dressings are non-adherent, non-adhesive and non-gelling.
